Early Years' Teacher: Miss Enrique
At Vittoria Primary School, we recognise that young children learn best when they are active and engaged. We recognise the power and importance of independent learning that takes place during play. We believe in the statutory document that requires children’s play to inform their learning.
On a daily basis, we offer children learning opportunities both indoors and outside in our garden to stimulate children’s interests, develop their knowledge and understanding in the seven areas of learning, extending children’s social skills so that they are able to thrive in school and in society at large. Children work outside in all weathers and staff use the changing weather as a resource. We ask parents/carers to provide children with appropriate clothing and footwear.
We aim to build a strong parent partnership and work collaboratively with parents to ensure a successful school experience for all families. Each family is offered a Tapestry Learning Journal when they start at Vittoria giving parents weekly insights to their child’s learning. Also parents can post back to us showing us the child’s home learning experiences. Regular workshops and ‘Stay and Play’ sessions are offered throughout each year to ensure families can access current teaching points.
At Vittoria we aim to give each child the very best possible start to their education, regardless of physical ability, race, religion, gender or current level of attainment. All children are given the opportunity to develop their personal interests and friendships alongside the development of life skills and academic knowledge and understanding.
Vittoria’s Early Years Foundation Stage has one Reception class for 30 children and one Nursery class for up to 26 children. Children enter a Reception class during the academic year that they become 5 years old. Children enter our Nursery during the academic term that they become 4 years old. Each class has a teacher and Nursery Nurse . We have the ability to access SEN TAs as and when different children require support.
The application process for entering a Reception class is through the local authority website, www.islington.gov.uk and then follow the link to school admissions. Nursery admissions are dealt with by the school. Please complete an admissions form and return it to the office together with your child’s birth certificate and proof of address. The school follows Islington criteria to allocate places for both Nursery and Reception classes.
