Summer Term 1

Teacher: Ms Turner

TA: Denise T

Welcome back to the summer term! I can't quite believe that we are in our final term in year 2. This term, you will see lots of changes in year two to help children prepare for the next step in their education. We will increasingly be sitting at tables, instead of the carpet, to help children in their transition to Key Stage 2. We will also be doing lots of practice for our SATS to help make sure that children feel comfortable with the structure of different questions on the day.

SATS

As you know, children in year will be sitting their SATS test during the month of May. There are four tests in total: x2 reading papers, an arithmetic paper and a maths reasoning paper. You can view tests from previous years here

Please help your child prepare for these tests by reading with them each day, asking them questions about what they have read, practising telling the time, practising adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.

Reading records

Children receive 1-2 books per week depending on the length. One of these books is linked to their in-school reading level and is designed to be quickly decodable for children so that they can become more fluent and expressive readers.

Reading records should be returned every Wednesday so that children can change their book. Please help your children take care of their books by encouraging them to carry their water bottle instead of placing it in their bookbag.

P.E.

Year 2's P.E. lessons will continue to take place on Wednesdays and Fridays. Children should bring their PE kit in a separate bag. They will change for PE at school.

Homework

Homework is given out on a Friday and we ask for it to be returned on the following Wednesday. Children also get a list of spellings each week for a spelling test the following Thursday. They will get a sticker saying how many spellings they got correct.

Topic

Our new topic is a history topic about the Great Fire of London. You can help your child by talking to them about what London looked like 400 years ago. If you want a weekend activity related to our topic, you can visit central London and try to spot the buildings that did not burn down. Perhaps you can visit The Monument to learn more about the fire.

Many Thanks,

Ms Turner and Denise T

Autumn Term 1

Teacher: Ms Turner

TA: Denise T

Welcome to the Autumn Term. I hope you all had a lovely break and are ready for learning.

Let's support one another to succeed in our learning journey.

P.E.

Year 2's P.E. lessons will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. Children should bring their PE kit in a separate bag. They will change for PE at school.

Reading record

Please support your child's reading development by reading with your child everyday for at least 10 mins. Reading records need to be signed daily and will be recorded and checked every Wednesday. Each week children will take home one reading for pleasure book that they are able to choose from the class or school library, and one reading book that is linked to their in-school phonics learning. Please note that the phonics books may be familiar to your child. The purpose of this is so that your child can increase their confidence and reading fluency.

Please help your children take care of their books by encouraging them to carry their water bottle instead of placing it in their bookbag.

Homework

Homework is given out on a Friday and we ask for it to be returned on the following Wednesday (unless stated otherwise in special circumstances). Please make sure you child brings their homework in on time, as it is beneficial to our learning.

Topic

You will have seen that our topic this term is ‘Wonder Women’. We will be exploring important women from the past including Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria, Mary Seacole, Florence Nightingale, Emily Davison, and Queen Elizabeth II.

Thank you for supporting the year 2 team by supporting your child at home. I look forward to getting to know you and working with your amazing, resilient children!

Last reminder; please ensure your child brings in a bottle of water to stay hydrated throughout the day and a rain coat to ensure they are prepared whatever the weather.

Many Thanks,

Ms Turner and Denise T
